Rosie tries to commit suicide by consuming poison. She had to give up her passion for dancing as it was unacceptable to Marco. One day, wealthy archaeologist Marco comes to the city with his young wife Rosie, the daughter of a courtesan. Raju is freelance guide who earns his living by taking tourists to historic sites. In 2012, Time magazine listed it at #4 on its list of "Best Bollywood Classics". It was entered for Best Foreign Language Film at the 38th Academy Awards, but it was not accepted as a nominee. Guide earned several accolades: at the 14th Filmfare Awards, it won for Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Dialogue, Best Story and Best Cinematographer.
